Any chair can be transformed into something amazing and unique! The simplest way is to go for stunning combinations of fabrics, with attention to details such as piping and buttons. This works well if the chair already has a strong shape.
Existing frames can also be remodelled to your requirements. The shape of the arms can be changed, buttoning can be added or removed, and legs can be painted, upholstered or replaced.

A dated armchair received a radical facelift, with remodelled arms, seat and back.

For a real ‘wow’ factor, you can add some textile art. Patchwork, quilting, applique and free-motion machine embroidery can all be incorporated as decorative features. This process does require much discussion with the client, but we are able to produce accurate drawings beforehand to allow you to see what the finished chair will look like.
The peacock design on this fabric was the inspiration for the appliqued cushion.
From Sketches to Reality!
Above is the design and realisation of my Elizabethan Knot Garden chair, which was runner-up in the 2018 Heico Chair Design Competition. It was exhibited at the January Furniture Show at the NEC. The frame was made from scratch.
